WESTBROOK RACING BY VISIT ANGOLA WELCOMES GGPEN STEM STUDENTS DURING E1 RACE WEEK IN LUANDA

LUANDA, ANGOLA, 22 SEPTEMBER 2026 Westbrook Racing by Visit Angola welcomed a group of young Angolan STEM students and Space Education Ambassadors from Angola’s National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) for an immersive visit with the Team during the UIM E1 World Championship race week in Luanda.

The initiative formed part of the Team’s “Powering Performance with Purpose” sustainability programme and its Empowerment pillar, which focuses on expanding STEM education and creating inclusive learning opportunities connected to the technology, engineering and sustainability challenges of electric racing.

Six GGPEN Space Education Ambassadors and interns took part in the programme, among them students of Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, and Computer Science and Multimedia Systems.

The group was accompanied by Gospel Fita, Project Coordinator for Automation and Intelligent Applications within GGPEN’s Department of Space Applications Development. Edna Caposso, Deputy Director-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs at GGPEN, also participated in the engagement.

During the visit, the students took part in a guided tour of the Westbrook Racing’s operations, providing an introduction to the sport and the way the Team prepares and operates during a race weekend. Team members presented the E1 RaceBird and its principal technologies. The students were also introduced to the different technical and operational roles within the Team, the use of engineering and data in preparation and decision-making, and some of the challenges involved in competing at the highest level of electric powerboat racing.

Ana Agostinho, Sustainability Lead at Westbrook Racing by Visit Angola, said: “Giving young people direct access to the Team allows them to see how engineering, technology and data are applied in a real performance environment. Bringing this STEM programme to Luanda was an opportunity to connect young Angolan talent with the practical challenges of electric racing and encourage further interest in these fields.”

Edna Caposso, Deputy Director-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs at GGPEN, said: “I would like to thank Westbrook Racing by Visit Angola for welcoming GGPEN and our young students. It was great to see their excitement and how engaged they became with the Team, asking questions and discovering how the technologies they are studying can be applied in a real-world environment.”

The STEM initiative also sits within the broader collaboration between Westrbook Racing and Angola through the Team’s relationship with Visit Angola and engagement with national institutions.

GGPEN, Angola’s national body responsible for managing and developing the country’s space programme, operates ANGOSAT-2 and develops space technologies and applications intended to address practical needs on the ground. Its Space Education Ambassadors support efforts to promote knowledge, awareness and interest in space technology among young people and the wider public in Angola.

The connection with GGPEN is particularly relevant to the wider sustainability activities of Westbrook Racing by Visit Angola. The Team is already working with the European Space Agency (ESA) and EOMAP to integrate Earth Observation technologies into its environmental monitoring framework, using satellite-based data to better understand water quality and environmental conditions around E1 race locations.

The Luanda programme represents one element of the Team’s wider commitment to engaging students, institutions and communities across the E1 calendar. Under its 2026 sustainability strategy, the Team intends to continue developing STEM activities that provide young people with practical exposure to international sport and demonstrate how engineering, technology and sustainability can contribute to real-world performance challenges.
